What is Tacen Exchange?

TLDR: Tacen Exchange combines centralized order management, (speed) decentralized settlement (security), and off-chain trading (extremely low-cost) to bring users the best of all trading worlds.

Our exchange combines centralized orderbook management with decentralized settlement, allowing users to trade and settle their transactions in a peer-to-peer fashion without the need for a central authority to take custody of their funds. This is what we call a “trustless” exchange. We sit in the unique position of having both established centralized exchanges and decentralized exchanges as competitors. Exchanges like KuCoin and Kraken don’t provide enough positive reinforcement or security/privacy assurances (cough, cough SBF) for professional firms and traders to stick around long-term, and we believe that our exchange offering is an attractive lure. Successful DEXes like DYDX provide users with the bare structure of what we are building but miss the point in terms of democratizing the process of settlement and offer little support for cross-chain solutions.

In addition to our positioning in the exchange market, Tacen's hybrid decentralized architecture provides a viable, fast, and safe alternative to traditional chain-to-chain bridges. Our order book supports cross-chain swaps and trades, which happen P2P and off-chain. Swaps are secure, robust, and battle-tested, which does not resemble the current landscape of swap protocols. Those that are regularly bridging into new chains will be pleased with the performance and safety of Tacen's swap capability. Our guiding philosophy is to provide a CEX-like experience with a DEX-like architecture, thus placing us at the intersection of blazing speed with the guiding security ethos that crypto is built on.

A trustless exchange stands as the next novel exchange solution simply because it eliminates the need for users to trust a central authority with their funds. In the case of a traditional exchange, users must trust that the exchange will keep their funds safe and secure. But as we’ve seen with the FTX hack and countless others, even the most reputable exchanges are not immune to security breaches. DEXes provide little as far as a solution. What they make up for in security and privacy they woefully fall short in exchange performance. Tacen’s non-custodial, trustless model gives users the highest standard in exchange performance without needing to give up custody of their funds or count on a centralized clearinghouse for settlement services.
